TEMPE, Ariz. (Sept. 22, 2020) – With a vision to expand its geographic presence and breadth of environmental services in the Southwestern U.S. and nationally, Terracon has announced the acquisition of Phoenix-based Environmental Planning Group (EPG).

Terracon, a leading provider of environmental, facilities, geotechnical, and materials services, acquired EPG to provide additional regional support to existing Rocky Mountain Division offices and to provide greater opportunities for EPG employees.

EPG’s approximately 50 employees will become part of Terracon, serving clients from offices in Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Denver and Las Vegas. The organization will continue to serve clients locally as Environmental Planning Group, A Terracon Company.

“EPG’s broad range of environmental services will strengthen our ability to service clients throughout Arizona and region,” said Brent M. Borchers, P.E., regional manager for Terracon and Tempe office senior principal. “We are thrilled to have EPG part of the Terracon team and look forward to working side-by-side with its staff.”

According to Terracon leaders, the transition will be seamless for EPG clients. All services will continue to be provided at a high level, and client agreements and project management will also continue without disruption. EPG’s leadership team will continue to be led by Paul Trenter, CEO, and Randy Palmer, president.

EPG is a privately held environmental consulting company with more than two decades serving public- and private-sector clients in the Western U.S. and nationally.

Founded in 1999, EPG offers interdisciplinary services including environmental planning and permitting, landscape architecture planning and design, biological and cultural resources, earth sciences, paleontology, public involvement, geographic information systems (GIS) and environmental mitigation and construction support.

“EPG brings a tremendous wealth of experience and strong professional presence in the region, further enhancing our environmental engineering and consulting services in the Southwest and Western U.S.,” said Gayle Packer, Terracon president and CEO.

“We’re excited for this great team of professionals to bring their talents to our shared vision of client service, now and in the future.”

EPG’s diverse portfolio of clients and projects includes large-scale energy utilities and electrical transmission, oil and gas, mining, municipal and private development, communities, parks and recreation, transportation and other infrastructure projects.

“This opportunity is a result of our ongoing commitment to providing excellent capabilities and service to our clients,” Trenter said. “Becoming part of Terracon’s national team of experts will leverage our existing strengths and set us on a new path for growth.”

With Terracon’s national presence, the acquisition will allow clients significantly more environmental, facilities, geotechnical, and materials resources throughout the Southwestern U.S. and nationally, and provide the ability to quickly mobilize staff to support changes in workload and project demands.

EPG joins engineering-environmental consultant Skelly and Loy, Inc., as Terracon’s second acquisition this year and 10th acquisition since the beginning of 2017.

Based in Olathe, Kan., Terracon is an employee-owned consulting engineering firm with more than 5,000 employees providing environmental, facilities, geotechnical, and materials services from more than 150 offices with services available in all 50 states. Terracon currently ranks 22nd on Engineering News-Record’s list of the Top 500 Design Firms. For additional information about Terracon, visit terracon.com.
