TEMPE, Ariz. (August 11, 2025) – The Terracon Foundation has awarded a $50,000 endowment to Arizona State University’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, providing ongoing scholarship support for civil engineering students facing financial challenges. Preference will be given to those pursuing a passion in geotechnical or pavement engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The principal goal of the $50,000 endowment proceeds is to provide a yearly scholarship to one student. The student recipient will be selected based on a review of qualified candidates by Terracon’s Phoenix office leadership in coordination with ASU. The recipient would be known as a “Terracon Endowment Scholar.”
The awarded student would have the opportunity to meet with Terracon employees and learn more about what it means to be a civil engineer. The check was presented to ASU on July 24 at Terracon’s Western Operating Group Intern Summit.
In addition, Terracon Foundation grants have funded scholarships for a total of six students in the past two years who needed supplemental funding for their education. Local Terracon senior leadership has led the selection of these Terracon Foundation grant scholarship awards by reviewing the pool of selected applications provided by ASU.
“Terracon senior leadership is proud to have facilitated these scholarships for all six students wherever their careers take them, and we look forward to continuing this effort with other students,” said Ramon Padilla, P.E., Geotechnical Regional Manager with Terracon.
Most of the Terracon Metro Phoenix office professional staff graduated from ASU with a mixture of graduate and undergraduate degrees. Terracon has extensive ASU involvement with volunteering efforts, conference support, attendance, and other cooperative efforts.
“The Terracon local senior leadership has maintained and gradually strengthened our relationship with ASU and the ASU Civil Engineering faculty,” Padilla said. “The relationship of the Terracon local senior leadership with the ASU faculty provides the ability to identify excellent students to offer internships. Most of our interns from ASU are offered full-time employment upon their graduation.”
Terracon hires between four to six interns per year from ASU across its various disciplines (Geotechnical, Materials, and Environmental) as part-time during the semester and/or full-time during the summer and winter class breaks.
Terracon’s Tempe office is located just 3 miles from ASU’s main campus, making it easy for students to work part-time at Terracon while pursuing their degrees, and for full-time Terracon employees to attend ASU part-time.
