Gary Haydon

“It’s hard for me to imagine that it’s been 30 years,” said Haydon President Gary Haydon. “It certainly doesn’t seem like it now, but the most exciting thing is transitioning the company to the next generation and thinking about what they will do with it. I’m proud of what we’ve put together here.”

Haydon was named 2021 ENR Southwest Contractor of the Year. It was honored for its commitment to employees and culture, in addition to a strong portfolio of projects and record-breaking backlog. Coreslab Structures utilizing CarbonCure technology that lowers concrete’s carbon footprint while enhancing project quality

Coreslab Structures utilizing CarbonCure technology that lowers concrete’s carbon footprint while enhancing project quality

News & Updates

To date, across Coreslab’s plants in Arizona, Missouri, and Texas, CarbonCure’s technology has saved a total of 726 tons of CO₂

PHOENIX, ARIZ.  (July 20, 2021) – Sustainability is increasingly a priority for architects, engineers and developers as they urgently seek solutions that reduce embodied carbon in the built environment, which is generated by the manufacturing of building materials and construction.

Coreslab Structures Inc., a premier producer of precast/prestressed concrete products, can utilize a carbon dioxide removal technology supplied by CarbonCure Technologies in its day-to-day operations in Arizona to provide low-carbon, precast concrete solutions to customers upon request. This ensures architects and engineers in Arizona can secure concrete solutions that deliver a significantly reduced carbon footprint without compromising strength or quality.

“CarbonCure provides us one more weapon in our sustainability arsenal, allowing even more cement reduction in our already lean high-performance concrete mix designs,” said Phil Richardson, SE, Sales Manager with Coreslab. “This together with our low water to cement ratios and the reduction of mild steel reinforcing, replaced with prestressing technology, yields a green sustainable building solution.”

CarbonCure’s technology injects recycled carbon dioxide (CO₂) into precast concrete during mixing. Once injected, the CO₂ undergoes a process known as mineralization, where it chemically converts into a nano-mineral and becomes permanently embedded in the concrete. This mineralized CO₂ increases the strength of the concrete and enables the reduction of cement content in precast elements, further reducing the carbon footprint of the concrete.

CarbonCure’s partnership with Coreslab started at the company’s Austin, Texas, precast plant in August 2020. Based on the success of that partnership in Austin, Coreslab is now deploying the technology at its Arizona and Missouri locations.

To date, across Coreslab’s plants in Arizona, Missouri and Texas, CarbonCure’s technology has saved a total of 726 tons of CO₂. That’s equivalent to taking about 150 cars off the road for a full year or the amount of carbon sequestered across 800 acres of forests in a year.

“We are thrilled to see Coreslab expand its use of CarbonCure’s technology to Arizona, introducing sustainable precast concrete to the state,” said Robert Niven, CarbonCure CEO and Board Chair. “Using captured carbon dioxide to produce reliable, low-carbon products and meet the surging demand for green construction shows Coreslab’s commitment to sustainability.”

About Coreslab Structures

Since 1975, Coreslab Structures Inc., has emerged as a major supplier of structural, architectural and hollow core solutions to markets in Canada and the U.S. With 17 precast/prestressed concrete facilities across North America, Coreslab is a leader in construction innovation, structural design and sustainable practices, dedicated to providing top quality products and services. Its commitment to excellence, leading technical expertise and collaborative culture allows it to deliver award-winning, innovative solutions that meet the schedule and cost requirements of its valued customers. To learn more visit www.coreslab.com.

About CarbonCure

CarbonCure Technologies, a fast-growing, clean tech company based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, has developed an easy-to-adopt technology that enables concrete producers to use captured carbon dioxide to produce reliable, low-carbon concrete mixes and achieve market differentiation. Available from hundreds of concrete plants, more than one million truckloads of CarbonCure-based mixes have supplied a wide range of sustainable construction projects around the world. CarbonCure’s investors include Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Amazon, BDC Capital, Pangaea, Microsoft, 2150, Carbon Direct, GreenSoil Investments, Taronga Group, and Mitsubishi Corporation. Fulton Homes purchases 187 acres, plans 675 lots on a county island in the bustling West Valley

News & Updates

Land Advisors Organization’s Phoenix Homebuilder Team represents seller of former dairy farmland in $14.78M transaction

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA (July 16, 2021) – Land Advisors Organization’s Metro Phoenix office is pleased to announce that its Homebuilding Team represented the seller in the $14.78 million sale of 187 acres in the West Valley to Fulton Homes. The builder plans to develop its signature master-planned community on the parcel.

The site, located at NWC of Perryville and Indian School roads in Maricopa County, is planned for 675 lots. A dairy farm previously sat on the land, which is on a county island between the West Valley cities of Goodyear and Buckeye. Land Advisors Organization’s team of Greg Vogel, Wes Campbell, Bret Rinehart, Ben Heglie and Ryan Semro represented the seller.

“This was a complex deal with the land requiring rather extensive work, including rezoning, dairy clean-up and working through technical challenges involving utilities and other infrastructure associated its location in unincorporated Maricopa County,” said Vogel, CEO of Land Advisors Organization. “I commend Fulton Homes for their work and investment on the front-end of this deal, which is an unusual strategy. But, as the amount of available land in the area dwindles, particularly with regard to large parcels, we’re seeing more builders willing to get creative on solutions to fill their lot inventory pipelines.”

Tempe-based Fulton Homes will offer four product lines in the new master-planned community. The site plan also calls for an aquatic center and sports park. The builder has closed on numerous land deals in the West Valley in recent months, with plans to build 3,500 homes in one of Metro Phoenix’s fastest-growing markets.
