Cawley Architects celebrates its next milestone, elevating Co-founder Paul Devers to President

Cawley Architects celebrates its next milestone, elevating Co-founder Paul Devers to President

News & Updates

     PHOENIX, ARIZ.  (Feb. 7, 2022) – Cawley Architects is celebrating its next company milestone, elevating co-founder Paul Devers to President. In January 2021, it announced the formation of a new in-house creative interior design service; in 2019 Cawley Architects celebrated its 25th anniversary naming four new partners.

Devers will be responsible for the firm’s day-to-day architectural, administrative, and corporate activities. Sherman Cawley, AIA, SIOR, Founder of Cawley Architects, will continue to be actively involved, working primarily on marketing, sales, and the firm’s transition plan.

Paul Devers (left) and Sherman Cawley of Cawley Architects.

“I am proud to announce the company has elevated my esteemed partner and long-time architect, Paul Devers, to be the President of Cawley Architects,” Cawley said.

Cawley founded the firm in 1991 as a sole proprietor. Devers joined him as a corporate business partner in 2000.

“During the past 20 years, we both have guided the firm to its present status as one of the premier architectural offices in the Valley,” Cawley said. “Over that time, Paul and I have grown the company from a small firm of only a few staff to today’s firm of 28 members and a very bright future.”

Devers possesses a wealth of business acumen, as well as design and leadership skills. As the Principal in charge of design, Devers has been actively involved with the management and development of the creative process and signature of the firm.

“I’m looking forward to a new role of providing leadership to continue the growth of the firm and to manage a smooth transition in leadership,” Devers said.

During his 43-year career, Devers has provided architectural services for more than 300 building projects comprising millions of square feet. These projects include office, retail, industrial, banking, corporate, hospitality, medical, education, and high technology industries.

Most recently, he designed and managed the 100,000 SF O’Dell Center, Faith Arena and recreational facility for Ottawa University on its City of Surprise campus. During the fast-tracked project, Devers was singled out by the university president as having been “super responsive, creative, and a terrific listener.”

In addition, his recent Adelante Healthcare project in Goodyear was a multiple award winner at this year’s Masonry Guild Awards ceremony.

“As part of our recent growth, Paul and I and the Executive Team have also embarked on planning a transition that includes assembling the company’s leadership for the next generation,” Cawley said. “Paul taking over as president is the first in several steps to ensure the company’s future and position it for a rewarding and successful 25 additional years.”

In 2019, Cawley Architects invited four additional key staff on board as partners who represent the next generation of design and corporate leadership. The partners were also given new corporate responsibilities and have embraced them to ensure continuity and a high level of service.

Cawley’s four partners named in 2019 are Lynette Dreitz, Director of Finance and Administration; Kevin Fawcett and David Fulk, Project Directors; and Rafael Macias, Director of Construction Administration and Quality Assurance.

In January, Cawley Architects launched Cawley Design Studio, promoting RoseAnn Linsmeyer to Interior Designer, NCIDQ.

Devers earned a Bachelor of Architecture Design from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Away from the office, Devers and his wife enjoy traveling and spending time with family.

Engineering consultant Terracon announces company rebrand to better align with client needs

Engineering consultant Terracon announces company rebrand to better align with client needs

News & Updates

       TEMPE, ARIZ. (Feb. 3, 2022) – Terracon has announced its first-ever refresh of brand visual assets and related collateral to better reflect its alignment with today’s client needs.

As a leading national consulting engineering firm comprised of engineers, scientists, architects, facilities experts, and field professionals who thrive on turning big ideas into reality for partner clients, employees and the world, Terracon’s brand now invites clients to “Explore with us.”

As an employee-owned firm with a long history of providing excellence in consulting services, Terracon has continued to evolve to provide clients with the best experience, on-time, quality earth-to-sky solutions, from dedicated partners. The brand is focused on meeting clients where they are in their project journey from the time a site is selected, to the design and construction, to maintaining the life of the structure.

      “After more than 55 years in business, it was time for our brand to better reflect who we are and where we’re headed in the future,” said Gayle Packer, Terracon chair, President and CEO. “Our refreshed brand respects our history while also pointing the way to the exciting future with our employee-owners and clients.”

Key elements of Terracon’s refreshed branding include:

  • A modernized logo featuring layered strata representing a comprehensive set of services from earth to sky;
  • A new tagline representing the desire to explore together with clients to deliver innovative quality projects faster;
  • A compelling company story told authentically through the experiences of our employee-owners;
  • Website navigation and graphics, signage, advertising, and other visual assets.

The refreshed Terracon brand was created through a year-long process to align how the company meets client needs, which began with identifying opportunities to better sync Terracon’s strategic plan with how the company presents itself externally. More than 600 Terracon employee-owners at various levels participated in this deliberate, thoughtful process.

Since its founding in 1965 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as a geotechnical engineering company, Terracon has grown to a thriving multidiscipline engineering consulting firm with more than 175 locations throughout the U.S. Terracon is employee-owned with more than 5,000 employees providing environmental, facilities, geotechnical, and materials services available in all 50 states.

In Arizona, Terracon has 130 total employees in offices in Tempe, Tucson, and Avondale.

Recently Terracon became the first Salt River Project commercial customer to contribute to SRP’s Healthy Forest Initiative™ (HFI), which seeks to reduce wildfire risk and restore the forested watersheds that provide water to about half of the Valley. Terracon made a contribution of $10,000.

When COVID-19 forced Terracon to postpone its annual golf tournament in 2021, it matched the first $2,500 in donations and presented the tourney’s charity, Kids at Hope, with a check for $5,000. In 2019, when the golf tourney was held, Terracon raised $10,000 for Kids at Hope. The Valley organization focuses on youths 3-18 that empowers groups to transform their cultures through professional, personal, and volunteer development workshops, seminars and classes.

“After over 50 years of our brand, we are happy to roll out a refreshed brand,” said Brent M. Borchers, P.E, Arizona Regional Manager. “Terracon has an amazing history of growth and incremental change, and our new brand sets the stage for a dynamic future and a new way to tell our story.”

Terracon’s Tucson office gives back to the community as well, donating $10,000 from the Terracon Foundation to the University of Arizona College of Engineering. It also awards a $5,000 grant to the Southern Arizona Research, Science, and Engineering Foundation (SARSEF).

The company’s successful growth strategy has included organic growth and innovation as well as the acquisition of more than 60 firms with specialized capabilities. A focused and uncompromising dedication to safety has been integral to all operations, particularly over the past 10 years.

Industry expert Andrea Davis rebrands her successful Scottsdale brokerage firm Davis Commercial AZ; celebrates 10th anniversary

Industry expert Andrea Davis rebrands her successful Scottsdale brokerage firm Davis Commercial AZ; celebrates 10th anniversary

News & Updates

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona (Feb. 2, 2022) – Beginning a new chapter for her company and celebrating its 10th anniversary, Andrea Davis is pleased to announce a rebranded full-service commercial real estate firm, Davis Commercial AZ.

Formerly Andrea Davis CRE, the rebrand also includes a new website and move to a new office at 8160 E. Butherus Drive, in Scottsdale.

      “While our brand identity has changed, our mission to help clients realize their commercial real estate vision, remains the same,” said Andrea Davis, CCIM, Principal of Davis Commercial AZ. “As we move into our next chapter, we will continue to develop strong relationships built on trust and communication while working on our clients’ behalf to secure all possible incentives in the marketplace.

“As we make our way into 2022, the rebrand allows us to better communicate the breadth of expertise our company truly represents,” Davis said.

Founded in 2002, Davis Commercial AZ is also celebrating its 10th anniversary. The office has grown to three full-time brokers and is looking to expand, Davis said.

During the past 10 years, Davis Commercial AZ has worked with owners, buyers, and tenants at The Venue in Scottsdale; Sundance Medical Center in Buckeye; Fountain Hills Medical Center; Buckeye Surgery Center; Sunrise Preschool; Value Truck; Mattress & Furniture Gallery; Meineke; Dutch Brothers; multiple office condo parks throughout Metro Phoenix; and a variety of warehouse and distribution centers.

“We doubled in size in the last two years, brought in new clients, outgrew our office, and added brokers to accommodate the growth,” Davis said.

The expansion of the team and client base inspired a rebrand and Davis Commercial AZ emerged from that vision, Davis said. The increased business volume compelled her to open an office in the Scottsdale Airpark. Davis has discovered what her clients go through when they purchase a commercial building and remodel. It was a humbling experience taking almost a year to move in.

Davis Commercial AZ closed more than 80 transactions totaling more than 625,000 in the past two years. The most notable transaction — a redevelopment deal in Old Town Scottsdale, The Venue — closed after two years in escrow. In addition, Davis closed a variety of other deals throughout the Valley and its expertise expanded to out-of-state locations like Nevada, Colorado, Oregon, Illinois, New Hampshire, and Tennessee.

“Arizona continues to be a hotspot for out-of-state companies, and we helped enthusiastic businesses relocate to the Valley from major cities like Seattle, Portland, and Chicago,” Davis said. “We anticipate continued steady growth in 2022.

“Despite current challenges, the commercial real estate outlook for 2022 is still bright.  With cautious optimism, there will be new opportunities in urban and suburban markets, and Phoenix is one of those Sun Belt metros leading the way,” she said.

ABOUT DAVIS COMMERCIAL AZ

Andrea Davis, CCIM, has practiced commercial real estate for more than 20 years. Davis’ breadth of knowledge stretches from developers to landlords to buyer/tenant representation and investments. Within the commercial real estate industry, Davis has won numerous awards. Andrea Davis CRE is listed among the top 10 in Ranking Arizona for the category of Office Brokerage. Her book, SimpLEASEity™, focuses on leasing and is the first in a series of commercial real estate guidebooks. Her next book, Simply Own It, the American Dream, is forthcoming this year. An employee-owned firm with more than 50 years of expertise in healthcare and higher education projects, GLHN promoted Dan Maher to Director of Architecture in the Tucson office and Russell Combs to Director of Design in its Phoenix office. The promotions are the result of a new dedication to design and the firm’s commitment to improving its communities by elevating the built environment.

The promotions are also a continuation of leadership growth. Last year, GLHN promoted Robert Lamb, PE, to CEO and Tiffany Gorrell to Director of Business Development and Marketing.

Away from the office, Combs enjoys watching football and playing golf and poker. He and his wife have two children and a Great Dane, Henderson.

GLHN excels at medical and laboratory facilities, utility master planning, design of central plants and underground utility distribution systems, complex multi-phased renovation projects, fleet vehicle maintenance facilities, and enhanced systems commissioning.
